Connecticut expands high school football playoffs

The Connecticut High School football playoffs are growing in two categories.

Earlier this season, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference will be champions in six categories instead of the usual four. CIAC is adding two new divisions for the next season – MM and S –

Under the new lineup, eight teams in each division will qualify for the postseason.

Rankings are divided equally by enrollment, however, CIAC will still nominate “choice schools” to play due to their recent playoff success. Teams that have reached the state semifinals at least once in the previous season have been placed at the top of the list statistics.

They will play St. Joseph and Killingley. St. Joseph will play in the L class instead of the SS. Killingley, a Class S school by enrollment, will play in Class MM.
